Batik KhairunQu Showcased at JKPI 2026

Lecturers and students from the Chemistry Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Khairun, contributed to the development of Batik KhairunQu, a batik product inspired by the natural and cultural heritage of North Maluku. Batik KhairunQu was subsequently showcased at the 2026 Indonesian Heritage Cities Network (JKPI) Exhibition, held at the Oranje Fort area in Ternate from August 26–29, 2026.

The initiative was led by Dr. Nurfatimah Sugrah, S.Pd., M.Pd., with Dr. Khusna Arif Rakhman, S.Si., M.Sc. as a faculty member, along with students Santi Nurmala Sari, Revadila Saleh, Desni Marwah, Nurkhalisa Sagir, and M. Lubhan Dewo.

At the exhibition, Batik KhairunQu featured hand-drawn and stamped batik with motifs inspired by the local heritage of North Maluku, including the Halmahera bird-of-paradise, owl, cloves, nutmeg, and distinctive local flora. These motifs were developed to preserve local identity while creating innovative creative products with aesthetic value and economic potential.

Participation in JKPI 2026 represents one of the Chemistry Education Study Program’s contributions to community service, particularly through collaboration between lecturers and students in developing local potential into innovative products. The activity also provided an opportunity to promote the cultural heritage of North Maluku while expanding opportunities for the development and wider marketing of Batik KhairunQu.
